India redefines its SMEs

In a new proposed law, the ministry of corporate affairs will revise what it considers an SME.

The goal is to reduce compliance costs for small companies in the areas of accounting, audit and corporate governance, while closing the loop for subsidiaries of larger companies with small paid-up capital but a much higher turn over rates.

Changes are commonplace throughout the ministry, which, last month, renamed itself.
