Time sensitive - Jeffrey Sachs on aid
As this year's BBC Reith lecturer Jeffrey Sachs will discuss an "overpopulated world on the brink of devastating change." This five-lecture series will only be available for 7 days after the first broadcast of each lecture.
His first talk "Bursting at the seams" calls for new solutions to extreme poverty and overpopulation. If you don't have a full hour to listen to the lecture, move to the question-and-answer part which features Geri Halliwell–a Spice Girl turned UN Goodwill Ambassador.
Those unconvinced by Mr. Sachs' worldview, will enjoy reading the rebuttal of his lecture by Dominic Lawson and Daniel Ben-Ami.

A successful UN Millennium Village Project, piloted by Jeffrey Sachs, exists near Kisumu in Kenya. The local population is applying “clinical economics” and the concrete fundamentals of poverty reduction. The community is totally engaged in the ownership of this brilliant solution-finding opportunity in the midst of challenging conditions. Malaria rates have been halved; Harvests have quadrupled and the surplus food has freed up children who once worked on the fields to go to school. Consequently, school attendance and performance has doubled. Simultaneous projects in health, water, energy and transportation, are transforming the lives of the villagers. These successes have been realized, not through handouts, but through investments. So when Jeffrey Sachs is talking, certain communities are very interested and I too, am listening.
