St Lucia best in Caribbean for Doing Business

My Doing Business colleagues released a new report on the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) today.

OECS countries have already harmonized several areas of business regulations such as business start-up, legal rights of borrowers and lenders, bankruptcy procedures and contract enforcement...The greatest remaining obstacles for OECS countries are lack of credit information and inefficient courts. For example, no OECS country has a functioning and comprehensive credit bureau, dampening entrepreneurs’ access to credit.

Related: previous posts on the 2007 report, Brazil, Mexico, Taxes, and Corruption. Okay, no more Doing Business blogging for me until the New Year, I promise.

Hi! We were lucky enough to have our luxury holidays in St Lucia last year (stayed here, lovely! http://www.elegantresorts.co.uk/location/Caribbean/St_Lucia.aspx), and I couldn't help but do some business whilst I was there-I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the response and attitudes of the local businesses-They are certainly a lot more organised than many of their caribbean counterparts!

St Lucia was voted as one of the top 30 places in the world to accomodate new enterprise. In fact it was the only island in the Caribbean which made it so high. Lots of opportunity for the entrepreneur. Check out http://www.rodneybay.net for more info about this beautiful island.
