'dropping knowledge’
I just came across the dropping knowledge initiative – though not sure what to make of it.
The idea, I think, is to host a global conversation on pressing global issues. The questions are ‘donated’ and voted on by you, and answered by ‘visionaries’ that you nominate. These 112 scientists, social entrepreneurs, artists and activist etc... will sit together at a huge round table in Berlin on September 9th and answer the 100 chosen questions. (One of the topics is economic development). All the responses will be recorded, translated and made available online. The hope is to challenge conventional thinking and inspire new ideas; and that by “dropping knowledge” all will gain “wisdom.” Will be interesting to see if this works out - at least the site is an neat start. For more see their blog, films, commercials, and ads.
It all sort of reminds me of a cross between TED, Pledge Bank and Long Bets.

What a great post! I've already spent way too much time mesmerized by the question applet they have on some of the pages (the one that makes you feel like you're floating through the space of questions)...
You're right about it being reminiscent of Long Bets and the Pledgebank.

Its interesting that this has not gotten much press or attention. With such ambitious goals it may be tough for them to get it done. Key will be to get some big name experts to accept. That will be the toughest part.

Sounds like an interesting idea. I suspect that nothing much will probably come out of it but increased revinue for tv advertisers. But it should be entertaining nonetheless.

Well someone saw the site and urged me to donate it some of the questions included in my Voice and Noise, and so, after I saw what they were up to, I went fishing and sent them the following http://64questions.blogspot.com/
Since there are many more in the pond where these came from I might send the some more, but I will give them some time to catch their breath first.
