Counting remittances

Sparked by a recent Washington Post op-ed and the new Hudson Institute’s Index of Global Philanthropy, the issue of how to classify remittances has once again surfaced. So they are not charity, and they are not aid - but no matter what you call them I firmly believe that there is still a huge amount that can be done to improve their development impact. An area we need to direct our creativity towards. My favorite book on the topic remains Maimbo and Ratha's. (via Poverty & Growth)
