A new measure of economic development?

Tokyo had Godzilla; New York had King Kong. But will Beijing ever be taken seriously as a great world city before it is destroyed by a giant monster?

Imagethief's post is a lot of fun, and we discover that, among others:

- Copenhagen was attacked by Reptilicus
- Los Angeles got Them
- North Korea was attacked by Pulgasari, admittedly in ancient times
- Sweden got a monster, although it appears to have been confined to rural areas, in keeping with Scandinavian tidyness
- Bangkok got Garuda

Seems like what you really need in order to get destroyed by a giant monster is a strong domestic film industry. Zhang Yimou, your next project?
